Is VITAL C Hydrating Intense Moisturiser suitable for sensitive skin?

Yes — and this is specifically where it excels. The formula is built for sensitive, redness-prone, and compromised skin from the ground up. Ceramide NS directly addresses the barrier deficit that underlies most chronic sensitivity. The emollient system uses skin-compatible lipids rather than heavy occlusives that sit on the surface. There are no high-concentration AHAs, no retinoids, and no irritating surfactants. The vitamin C is stabilised and does not lower skin pH. Olive fruit oil and shea butter are among the most soothing emollient choices available. In clinic, this is my go-to recommendation for clients with rosacea, eczema-prone dry skin, perimenopause-related barrier thinning, and any skin that has become sensitised following aggressive treatments or over-exfoliation. The INCI does include Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Peel Oil, Eugenia Caryophyllus (Clove) Leaf Oil, Limonene, Eugenol, Linalool, and Isoeugenol — natural fragrance components present at typical cosmetic concentrations. Very well tolerated, but if you have a confirmed fragrance sensitivity, check with me before starting.

How do I use it — and where does it sit in my routine?

Apply to cleansed skin morning and/or evening, after your serum and eye gel and before SPF in the morning. Apply liberally to face, neck, and décolletage — this is not a product to ration, especially when skin is very dry. It absorbs into a velvety, non-greasy finish despite its richness, which means it works well as a daytime moisturiser under SPF as well as an evening repair crème. Pro tip: blend a small amount with I CONCEAL Flawless Foundation in the palm for a hydrating tinted coverage in a single step. For very depleted or post-treatment skin, it can also be applied as an overnight mask by using a more generous application on clean skin before bed with no further products on top.

When will I see results?

Immediate: skin feels deeply comfortable and nourished from the first application — the tightness, pulling, and sensitivity that characterise chronically dry skin resolve within minutes and remain resolved throughout the day. The ceramide complex and olive oil emollient system work quickly to restore that "skin feels like itself again" sensation. Progressive: with consistent twice-daily use, the ceramide complex progressively rebuilds barrier integrity over two to four weeks, reducing reactive flares and improving moisture retention between applications. The triple vitamin C and peptide duo contribute brightening and visible line-softening over six to eight weeks of regular use. For skin that has been compromised or stripped, the most dramatic results typically arrive at the four-to-six-week mark when barrier function has genuinely stabilised.

Can I use it during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Yes. The formula contains no retinoids, hydroquinone, or high-concentration AHAs. The retinyl palmitate present is at a very low cosmetic concentration typical of daily moisturisers — well within the range considered appropriate during pregnancy. The ceramide, peptide, vitamin C, and emollient actives are all appropriate at these topical concentrations. In practice, this is one of the moisturisers I'd specifically recommend during pregnancy, when hormonal changes commonly lead to increased skin dryness and sensitivity. Is this suitable for daytime use, or is it too heavy?

It's suitable for both morning and evening. The "intense" richness is in the level of nourishment, not in heaviness or greasiness — it absorbs quickly and leaves a velvety, comfortable finish rather than a film or shine. Under SPF it provides an excellent hydrating base. Where it differs from a standard daily moisturiser is in the depth of barrier repair it provides over time. For very oily skin it may be too rich as a standalone daytime moisturiser, but for normal-to-dry, dry, sensitive, and mature skin it is an ideal daily crème. If you're using it in the morning alongside a rich face oil, consider alternating — oil in the evening, crème in the morning — rather than layering both.

How long will one jar last?

At twice-daily use applied liberally to face, neck, and décolletage, the 50ml jar lasts approximately two to three months. The rich texture means a relatively small amount covers the full application area, so resist the temptation to overuse in the first few days — a pea-to-almond-sized amount is sufficient for the face, with extra for the neck and décolletage. Store with the lid closed, away from direct sunlight and heat.
