How To Use

After cleansing, apply to a cotton pad or directly to clean hands and sweep gently over face, neck, and décolletage. Do not rinse. Follow immediately with serum and moisturiser while skin is still slightly damp — this maximises active ingredient absorption. Use morning and evening. Safe for daily use on all skin types. An ideal pre-treatment step before in-clinic facials, peels, or microneedling — apply in-clinic prior to treatment for enhanced penetration.

What makes this different from other toners?

Most toners do one job — a quick refresh after cleansing. The Pre-Treatment Toner does four. Is Pre-Treatment Toner suitable for sensitive skin?

Yes, for most sensitive skin — the exfoliating acids here are lactic acid and gluconolactone, the two gentlest resurfacing options available, chosen specifically because they refine without stripping or compromising the barrier. Chamomile, cucumber, and allantoin add active soothing. Where I'd apply a little care: the formula contains a broad blend of citrus extracts, so clients with a known citrus or fragrance sensitivity should patch test on the inner forearm for a few days first. If your skin is currently reactive, inflamed, or barrier-compromised, start with once-daily evening use and build to twice daily as tolerance allows. Genuinely unsure? That's what a skin consultation is for.

How does it fit into my routine?

It's the step between cleansing and everything else. After cleansing, sweep over face, neck, and décolletage using a cotton pad or clean hands — don't rinse — then apply your serum and moisturiser immediately while skin is still slightly damp, which is when absorption is at its peak. Use morning and evening. If you're using HydraFlora, toner comes first: cleanse → Pre-Treatment Toner → HydraFlora → serum → moisturiser. It's also an ideal prep step before in-clinic facials, peels, or microneedling — we use it in clinic for exactly that reason.

When will I see results?

The immediate change is texture and feel — skin is noticeably smoother, fresher, and better balanced from the first use, and you'll likely notice your serums absorbing more readily within the first week. That absorption effect is the toner's quiet superpower: everything applied after it starts performing better almost straight away. The brightening pathways — Actiphyte®, Citrustem, and Melfade® PF — work progressively, with visible improvement in tone and clarity typically emerging over four to eight weeks of consistent twice-daily use. Can I use it if I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?

Largely, yes. The formula contains no retinol, and lactic acid is one of the exfoliating acids considered appropriate during pregnancy. The one ingredient worth an individual conversation is bearberry-derived arbutin in the brightening complex — it's present at cosmetic levels, but some prescribers, myself included, prefer a case-by-case approach to brightening actives during pregnancy, particularly as pregnancy pigmentation behaves differently anyway. Do I really need a toner if I'm already using good serums?

This is the most common question I get about this product, and the answer is: the better your serums, the stronger the case for the toner.
